Founded in 754 in the foothills of the Montagne Noire, this Benedictine abbey became famous through its innovative teaching methods practiced from the 17th century until its closure in 1991. Its renown was such that it was established as the Royal Military School of Louis XVI, and welcomed students from all over the world. During the 19th century it was directed by Reverend Father Lacordaire.
