In the municipalities of Marseillan and Agde, between land and sea, lie the historic Caves Richemer, with their wine cellars, vineyards and production units. They are great places to enjoy a tasting, take a tour, meet people and share the experience…
The Marseillan-Plage cellar, a “cathedral of wine” designed in 1948 by the architect Paul Brès in keeping with the Languedoc tradition, is equipped to host tastings, meals, concerts, seminars and tours.
It’s a major stopping place for visitors and especially cyclists, as it occupies a strategic position at the intersection of the EuroVélo 8, also known as Véloroute de la Méditerranée (Mediterranean Cycle Route), the Deux-Mers Canal cycle path and the route around the Étang de Thau lagoon.
“Accueil vélo”-certified thanks to its facilities for cyclists, the cellar offers a garage, toilet block and repair service as well as its wine-tasting, food and workshop offering. A range of bicycles are also available (booking required).
There are tastings of oysters and mussels from the Bassin de Thau lagoon and fish from the Mediterranean, paired with wines from Caves Richemer.
Boat trips depart from the cellar’s pier at Marseillan harbour, connecting the Canal du Midi and Agde’s famous round lock. Tours of the Domaine de Maraval include the services of a guide and end with an on-site tasting of the vintage of the same name.
